To be honest, I am a bit stumped as to what to write my research paper on. Of course I am carious about a lot of things in life, but I don’t really acknowledge them! I don’t know if the things I am interested could be considered a good research topic for a school paper. This kind of goes back to the good or bad student blog. I am not interested in reading writing about this or anything, but what I’m asking is, is there a certain topic that is more acceptable than another for an English class paper? I mean, I might have written a blog based on the party I attended last weekend but will my English teacher really want to read about it? Perhaps I could do research about this type of party, and maybe do a survey on the types of kids who do party on the weekend (who knows, it was just something I brainstormed).
Anyway, I was just reading through my blogs trying to find one I really enjoyed writing. I ran across my Good student or bad (only because people have commented on it) so maybe that would be a good one to go off from. You guys left decent comments that could really help me to start a paper (Thanks for that!). However, the last one I wrote about being a tourist for the weekend is kind of interesting…to me anyway. Everything I wrote in it was completely true because New York City is such a splendid city and I love every moment that I am in it! There is so much one can learn from living in a place like this. This could definitely make for an interesting story. The other one I liked was the way we do research. This would make for an interesting topic considering I would have to research to talk about research...hehe…I liked this one mostly because it focused on us as teenagers and the way we research and write. As we discussed in class, there are many ways in which we write but we don’t even realize that we are doing it! For example, I just sent out a text message to someone, so therefore I was writing. As the lady at the writing center pointed out, everyone is a good writer in their own way. This is completely true. Everyone has their own style of writing, and we all have a special way in which we do research.

Katie,
You are a GREAT blogger! Sorry, but I may have to show your blog to the class as an example of exactly what I think these things can be used for.
Your entry here, thinking through the task of coming up with a project, is a good example in itself of how the journal can be used. And you're right to wonder what is "appropriate" for an English class, because sure there may be some things less relevant than others. But on the other hand, I for one am perfectly happy to read about student party life because that's part of MY vision quest. I'm here to learn too, and yes, of course, that can be a research topic too because, as you write in the next entry, LIFE IS A RESEARCH PROJECT!!
That's really the lesson I hope to teach in this class, so maybe all I need to do is direct people to Katie's blog!
Keep up the good work -- you're on the right track, definitely.
